Finding October
October has always been my favorite month… It is my birthday month, but it is so much more. The weather, the colors, the food and football… I have always loved October. And before 2018, I also loved supporting Breast Cancer Awareness…. Taking a walk in the fall for a good cause - SIGN ME UP! I loved raising money for cancer research.
In 2018 - My October was rocked to its core. I was in the middle of 33 rounds of radiation - my blood work tanked and I needed two blood transfusions - and I was still doing “clean up” chemo after my double mastectomy in July. In 2018, October became ugly…. Every time I saw a pink ribbon, I wanted to throw things at it. I hated everything pink in 2018. But throughout the entire month - my tribe of prayer warriors continued to lift me up and helped me limp to the end of radiation on October 19th. (And they have not stopped praying for me and thankfully we rejoice that I’m NED… No Evidence of Disease)
Last year, I felt so good in October that I enjoyed working and spending time with family - thankful that I was done with treatment! So this year, I’m bringing fun back to October. Pink - Bring it on! I just purchased a perfect pink journal to keep all of life’s surprises in, and today - the kick off day for Breast Cancer Awareness Month - I saw my pink journal and was surprised when I was overcome with JOY when I saw the color pink! (Side note…If you want to keep a record of Surprises…. Check out this journal. It will truly surprise you when you write down what surprises you….)
So, surprise…I’m going to write something on my blog every day this month… I plan to celebrate October, and celebrate big! October IS my favorite month… October IS my birthday month…. And the weather is GLORIOUS!
Serendipitously I found the attached picture of fall leaves…. with a pink leaf….This month I’m going to have fun finding October again!
