One Person
After chemo, surgery and radiation, I worked a lot with a Physical Therapist to try to get on top of my lymphedema. During this time, I was having a hard time keeping my hemoglobin up, and had to get two blood transfusions. I was expressing my frustration with all of the setbacks I had during one of my PT appointments, and my physical therapist said, “If you’ve met one person with breast cancer, you’ve met one person with breast cancer.” And she was right. Every person has a different story. From diagnosis, treatment, to survivorship… every person who has a cancer diagnosis walks their own path.
I was sharing this story with a group today, and all of the women had something they were going through, whether it be a diagnosis or a roadblock in life. Even as people are going through similar situations, each person is going to have their own story. So many factors can affect someone’s story. Family, friends, age, location… the list goes on and on… but no two stories are ever the same.
My story is my story… and I have always loved to tell stories. But I have also always wanted to learn about other stories as well. I love to hear about journeys of resilience. I love celebrating with a friend who received clear scans today! I love watching my kids build their stories as they are growing up. Tonight as we were watching my son's football game, our team caught an interception on the third down, and my nephew said, “The other team basically had a third down punt!” Oh boy did my heart soar after that comment. Thank you for reading this blog and supporting me as I practice writing. Sometimes one person can really brighten another person's day.
