Heavy Lifting

The garage/shed has always been Steve’s domain. (And we technically have 3 - so he has a lot of domains) The first year we were married, I thought I would get him a smoker for Christmas. He loved grilling, and I thought he would enjoy having a smoker as well. I will never forget when he opened his present. He said, “Thanks, that will match the one we have in our back shed.” Well… who knows what he has in the back shed, the garage or the in any of his sheds… so I returned the smoker and purchased myself a new pair of boots.

Before I got sick, I would sometimes think to myself, “Steve would never know how to do all the things I do.” Well during chemo, I was able to see first hand that he CAN actually do EVERYTHING I normally do around the house. Dishes, laundry, helping kids with homework…He can do it all very well. (Sometimes during treatment, it felt like he was doing it all too well…. and I wanted to just get energy back to do laundry again.)

Well now I’m on the other side learning what he did, while I was inside and THANK GOODNESS the boys are 13 and 15, and not 3 and 5…The outside stuff is heavy! Today we needed to move some tables in the garage. Those tables are heavy, and I could not get those tables to budge. Luckily the boys can do the heavy lifting while Steve recovers and I’ll remember the inside jobs may feel like they never end… but I have the strength for those!
